In India, all along a child’s formative years, vaccines are administered at school in accordance with the routine vaccination programme of the Ministry of Health, Government of India.
In November 2019, the students of Class I were administered the Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus vaccinations (DPT). The DPT is a class of combination vaccines against three infectious diseases in humans: diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough) and tetanus which are instrumental in developing immunity to three deadly diseases caused by bacteria.
Following this, the students of Classes V and X were administered the Titenus (TT) vaccine. Tetanus is an infection caused by a bacterium called Clostridium tetani. Spores of tetanus bacteria are everywhere in the environment, including soil, dust, and manure. The spores develop into bacteria when they enter the body.
